MBM to unveil Carole King's Tapestry in SA
Matt Byrne Media to present tribute at Tapestry Winery & Holden Street Theatres in Jan-Feb 2005
Matt Byrne Media will make the earth move for Carole King fans this January/February when it presents the SA premiere of her superb musical tribute Tapestry ... at Tapestry Winery at McLaren Vale and Holden Street Theatres at Hindmarsh.
Tapestry was the ground-breaking 1971 album by prolific songwriter Carole King and husband Gerry Goffin, which put women on the music map and has currently sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, and this show is a tribute to their fantastic songbook.
MBM will unveil Tapestry under the stars in picnic mode at Tapestry Winery at Olivers Road, McLaren Vale on January 28 and 29, and transfer the show to intimate mode at the Holden Street Theatres at Hindmarsh, from February 2 to 12.
Producer/director Matt Byrne said he had decided to stage the SA premiere season “because Tapestry is the music of a generation and the songs mean just as much today as they did back in the 1970s.”
“Numbers like I Feel The Earth Move, It's Too Late Baby and You've Got A Friend are classics from the Tapestry album, but Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote hundreds of hit songs,” Byrne said. “Tapestry the stage show also features other golden hits like Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Up On The Roof, Jazzman and even Locomotion from the extensive Carole King/Gerry Goffin songbook.”
And Byrne is delighted the SA premiere will be outdoors at the spectacular Tapestry Winery at Olivers Road, McLaren Vale.
“It is a magnificent venue with lawns, trees and a superb view as the sun sets over the Southern Vales and the stars appear,” he said. “What a way to spend a summer evening listening to six singers and a live band present some of the finest songs of the 20th century.”
Tapestry Sales & Marketing Manager, Mr. Paul Turnbull said bringing Tapestry to Tapestry was “part of the winery's long-term plan to offer a greater range of events and entertainment to patrons.”
“People will be able to sample superb wine, book a Tapestry Tapas hamper in advance, bring a blanket and soak up the atmosphere to magnificent music they have loved all their lives,” Mr. Turnbull said.
Mike Pitman is musical director, and the top Adelaide cast features (pictured from left to right) Matt Byrne, Charissa McCluskey, Michael Williams, Nick Brinkworth, Robyn Woolvett, and Christine Isemonger with choreography from Renee Klingner.
Tapestry will open at the Tapestry Winery at Olivers Road, McLaren Vale on Friday and Saturday, January 28 and 29 at 8 p.m. All Tickets are $25 for the McLaren Vale performances with Tapas Hampers available for $24.50. Book on 8323 9196 or at Bass on 131 246.
Tapestry's City season will run at the Holden Street Theatres at Hindmarsh from Wednesday to Saturday, February 2 to 5 and 9 to 12 at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, February 5.

“An almost flawless representation of all that's good about the singer-songwriter movement, this much-beloved Grammy-winning masterpiece from the Brill Building graduate is indelibly printed on the pop culture conciousness of the '70s and has a permanent seat on the all-time-greatest dais. Expect no bells and whistles, just powerful love-lorn balladry that transcends sap and feels like a conversation with an old friend. This beautifully woven collection resonates today -- King is still the queen.” * * * * *
