Barrackers!
Reviewed by Sue Oldknow
FOUR fevered footy fans fight it out as the ill-fated
Ferrets have their final fling.
It is a tight team with coach Matt Byrne and players
Glen Christie, Chris Kendall and Glenn Butcher in multiple roles
bulldozing their way through blackouts and quirky musical links
to the final whistle.
From cheerleaders to bully boys we are given more
insight than we ever asked for into the life-saving, religious fervour
that surrounds ''the game''.
We see it from every hilarious point of view with
catty commentators, gorgeous grannies, bitchy babes ... the works.
Look out for the catfight, the club song medley (recognise
yours?), Byrne's hyena-boy laugh, Christie's ''special'' character
Stats, and a couple of poignant moments from Butcher and Kendall
among many fine snapshots in this well written ode to the panacea
of working class woes.
Will the Ferrets ever win a game? With Barrackers
like these, anything is possible.
